5 Ways to Honor Mother Nature and Your Body

Woman meditating outdoors honoring Mother Nature

When was the last time you took a step into nature and felt how good the grass feels between your toes and under your feet? Or dipped your feet in a lake, a stream, or the ocean?

In today’s modern-day lifestyle, many people don’t take the time to experience the joys nature has to offer. However, there is no better way to honor Mother Earth than to get outside and enjoy her company – and when you do, you’ll also experience many health benefits.

Why Our Bodies Need Nature

Our modern lifestyles provide many conveniences. We can get just about anything we need in a few days – and in some cities, a few hours! That includes our meals. Unfortunately, this convenience has contributed to underlying issues of nutritional deficiencies, microbiome disturbances, and hormonal imbalances. All of these things can also impact skin health. Luckily, there is a way to strike a balance between connecting with Mother Nature and enjoying the luxuries of modern-day life.

The truth is we need nature to feel happier, more connected, and for our overall mental health. Connecting with nature helps restore harmony in our bodies and our minds. Many research studies have shown that spending time in nature helps alleviate stress, increase self-esteem, reduce anxiety, and improve mood.

5 Ways to Enjoy and Honor Mother Nature

Here are some tips to help you embrace what Mother Nature has to offer, even when you have a busy schedule.

#1. Make Getting Outside a Priority

The best way to honor nature is to get outside, breathe in the fresh air, and enjoy all that Mother Nature has to offer. Take a walk in a park near your home to indulge in the health benefits

of nature, or sit by the beach and bask in some quiet, reflective time. And if you have a dog, I don’t have to tell you that dog walks are the perfect opportunity to spend time outdoors. Plus, who doesn’t want to bond with their dog more?

When you do get outdoors, a great way to honor Mother Nature is to practice “no trace left behind.” Always leave nature looking better than you found it. Bring a bag to pick up trash if you can, and never leave anything behind on the trail or at the park.

#2. Choose Local Foods

Choosing local foods (especially produce) means you’re getting what’s in season. When you seek out local foods, you’re doing Mother Nature a favor. The food travels across shorter distances, making it more sustainable, and it’s more nutrient-dense, making it healthier for you. What’s available will depend on where you live and what time of year it is.

For some people, this can be more difficult due to living in harsh climates with short growing seasons. My advice? Take advantage of what’s in season when you can. If you don’t have a long growing season or plant-based foods don’t flourish where you are, maybe there’s another local option, such as fresh fish to get those omega-3 fatty acids.

#3. Start a Garden

Growing your own garden deeply connects you to the earth. You’ll learn more about what Mother Nature needs to flourish and how you can promote that process. And when you start a garden, you’ll get the healthy benefits of being outside regularly.

When planning your garden, research methods that will improve the soil and the ecosystem of your yard as time goes by. Depending on where you live, you may need to start seeds indoors first. And if you do not have a backyard, try a container garden or seek out a plot of community garden space.

Many cities have community garden spaces you can rent to grow your own produce. If you need help getting started to learn what thrives where you live, talk to a local farmer or do some research online. This will help you plan for frost, heavy rain, and other weather hazards.

Gardening is a wonderful way to honor Mother Nature. You’re giving back to the earth what has been taken away somewhere else. Plus, digging into the soil is good for your microbiome!

#4.  Meditate in Nature

Meditating outdoors is another great way to honor Mother Nature and your soul. And this doesn’t mean you have to be sitting down. Take a walking meditation in a garden, forest, park, beach, or mountaintop. Walking meditations can be just as impactful as sitting down – if not more when you do them outdoors.

Ditch the noise from your smartphone or headphones, and indulge your senses in the sights, sounds, and scents of nature. Listen to the birds chirping, hear the waves crashing, and enjoy the scent of your favorite flowers.

During your walk, you might want to simply sit and observe your surroundings. Watch the sun rise or set. Observe a robin building a nest. There’s never any shortage of sights to see in nature. This is a great way to promote peace and calm in your body and mind.

#5. Choose Sustainable Products with Organic Ingredients

We can get anything we want quickly today – and that means Mother Nature is paying the price. To honor Mother Nature, seek out natural and organic products when you can. Research what companies are doing to reduce, reuse, recycle, and bring products to you in a sustainable way.

Here are some of the ways we practice sustainability at The Spa Dr. – and we are always thinking creatively about what we can do more.

  • We use 100% recyclable containers that are streamlined to reduce waste (no outer shell)
  • We have eliminated unit cartons on The Daily Essentials 4-Step Skin Care System and eliminated the need for an extra shipping box
  • Plastic packaging is lighter than glass, meaning it takes less fuel to get it to your doorstep and it won’t break during shipping
  • We use airless pumps to prevent the contamination of products that occurs when you put your fingers in the containers or open it to the air
  • All ingredients are natural and we source organic whenever possible, so that means they’re not harmful to the environment – and when you wash them off, they don’t contribute to the contamination of our water supply
  • Our konjac facial sponge is biodegradable

These are only some of the ways you can honor Mother Nature every day. We only have one planet to live on, and the research has made it clear that we need to take care of it better. Practice mindfulness whenever you can, because the actions of each one of us can make a difference. And not only are these steps good for nature, they are also good for your heart, soul, and health.
